Impact fees to increase in Raleigh and Cary;
Durham may follow
Against
the backdrop of a slowing national and local economy, Cary is considering
raising its water and sewer impact fees to pay for long-term capital
improvement projects. One
proposal being discussed would double the fee paid by a new homeowner.
For example, for a 3,800 square foot home, a homeowner would pay approximately
$10,000 in water and sewer tap fees.
In
Raleigh , impact fees are also expected to double. New homeowners would
pay approximately $2,500 in fees. Commercial and office owners would also
see fees increase.
Likewise,
Durham officials have been pressing for higher transportation impact
fees. Late
last year,
Durham planners presented a study showing the need to significantly increase
the fees for all types of developments.
All proposed increases must first go before the public before final action
by elected officials. TCC will continue to monitor these jurisdictions and
proposals. Meanwhile, contact Chris Sinclair at rcsinclair@tricc.org for
additional information.
Take
TCC’s
Durham and
Raleigh surveys
Two years ago, the Triangle Community Coalition (TCC) initiated a dialogue
with elected leaders in
Raleigh and
Durham about challenges associated with the development
approval process. Since
then, both Raleigh and Durham governments have made changes to the development
approval process. TCC now wants to gauge these changes with another member
survey.
If you have not already done so, complete either or both of the surveys
depending on your experiences athttp://www.tricc.org/mem4724/RalDev2007/RaleighDevFollow2007b.htm to access
the Durham survey or http://www.tricc.org/mem4724/RalDev2007/RaleighDevFollow2007b.htm to access the
Raleigh survey.

TCC adopts new strategic plan
In
December, the Triangle Community Coalition (TCC) Board of Directors met
and voted on a two-year strategic plan for the organization. The plan,
entitled "New
Day, New Challenges," maps out a new direction for the group over the
next two years. For more information, contact Chris Sinclair at rcsinclair@tricc.org.
