Have you completed your mandatory Code of Ethics class yet

Code of Ethics Requirement
What’s this About?

Check CE Code Requirement

The National Association of REALTORS®, (not the NC Real Estate Commission), has mandated that all REALTORS® must complete an approved Code of Ethics class every four years. The quadrennial began January 1, 2005, and ends December 31, 2008.  Failure to fulfill this obligation by December 31, 2008, will result in the termination of the individual in the REALTOR® Association and the loss of all concomitant benefits, including MLS access.

Have YOU completed your mandatory Code of Ethics class yet?

If your answer is “YES”, and you have confirmed that your current Association has record of it, then you can sit back and relax until it’s time to take the class again: any time between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2012.

If your answer is “I’M NOT SURE”, then you must call your current Association as soon as possible to verify that they have record of it. If they do not, then think back to where else you may have taken the class; you must obtain an original certificate of completion from the organization where you took the Code of Ethics class and present it to your current Association. No copies or faxes will be accepted. Also you must be certain the course has been APPROVED BY YOUR LOCAL ASSOCIATION.

If you are unable to find proof that you have taken the Code of Ethics class since January 1, 2005, then you must take the class again, (or for the first time as the case may be), before December 31, 2008. (Note: If you have joined a REALTOR® Association and been through New Member Orientation since January 1, 2005, then you have automatically fulfilled your Code of Ethics requirement. The Code of Ethics class is taught during all Association Orientations.

If your answer is “NO”, then you must sign up for a Code of Ethics class as soon as possible to avoid losing your Association membership and access to MLS. There are several ways in which to fulfill the requirement:

  • Complete a four-hour continuing education elective course. Approved courses are listed below.
  • Take the on-line continuing education course, #2494, through www.rrar.com.
  • Attend the 2˝ hour Code of Ethics portion of our New Member Orientation, offered the first and third Thursday of every month. Cost is $25. Space is very limited; please call Susan Jones at 654-5400 to sign up.

You must pre-register for all courses.
