Why We Choose The Leaders We Do
By Mary Ellen Heathcote
You often hear that he or she is a “born leader.” Is that really true? In my opinion…No! There is a set of qualities that define a leader, and they are acquired…not birth rights.

What are these qualities? I call them “The 10 Cs of leadership.” Let’s briefly look at each one. Read More

Let's Twitter
By Michael Russer
In the real estate business, where networking and marketing are key to survival, it’s easy to jump on the bandwagon of every new technology that promises to quickly spread the word about you and your services.

But before you spend your precious time trying to master every new online tool, you’ve got to evaluate whether it’s really worth it. And in the case of Twitter, I think the vote is still out.

If you haven’t heard about Twitter yet, here’s a quick rundown: Twitter is a free, Web-based “micro-blogging” service that allows you to send short (140-character maximum) text messages to everyone on your subscriber list (who are known in the Twitter world as your “followers”). Read More

Get Going, Go-Getters!
by Heidi Ketler
It would be so nice if exercise came as naturally as breathing. Imagine if it was as enjoyable as, say, eating ice cream. (Yum! Would it, then, be bad for us?)

In reality, we all know, exercise should be as elemental to our lives as nutrition, and it should be incorporated into our weekly, if not daily, schedules.

We hear it all the time. Exercise regularly to feel better, look better and think better. Benefits also translate into improved sense of well-being, relationships, productivity and professional success.Read More

What is 'Search Engine Optimized Writing' For Real Estate
By Peyman Aleagha
When I first started writing for the Internet I was mesmerized by the term search engine optimized (SEO) writing. I had lots of questions. What should my writing be for it to be search engine optimized? How do I make search engine optimized writing different than regular writing? How is search engine optimized writing different? What is search engine optimized writing? Read More

Your Association's Projections
State election officials report huge increases in new voters in recent months: about 257,000 have been added since January, roughly 50,000 of them since the May primaries. Of the total, 145,000 voters have registered as Democrats, 17,000 have registered as Republicans and about 95,000 voters have registered as unaffiliated. Most of the unaffiliated voters, election officials say, are young, black voters registering for the first time.Read More

Get Your Business Off The First Tee
By Randy Friedman
Company A is doing great with its record-breaking profits this quarter, despite the economic downturn. Turnover rates are low and employees are motivated. Company B, on the other hand, is struggling. Employee morale is low, turnover rates high and profits are sagging. What could Company A be doing that Company B is not?

Company A employees apply the skills they’ve learned on the golf course to their business. Not only is golf a great networking tool, but it also teaches many important business lessons. Fortune 500 companies like FedEx, Bank of America, Coca-Cola, Kodak and many others know the power of golf. They’ve put their money into the PGA Tour for three main reasons: Read More

How To Win The Negotitation.....Without Being A Jerk
By Mariwyn Evans
You won't get through even one day without the need to negotiate. So if you have to do it, why not get better at it?

Perhaps the first thing to learn about negotiating is that “better” doesn’t necessarily mean being the nasty guy. “There are basically two approaches to negotiation – the adversarial and the interest-based,” says Richard Reuben, associate professor at the University of Missouri – Columbia School of Law.
