COMMENTARY

As we get ready for the November 2nd  elections, chances are that you are heading to the polls and you are likely angry about something that government has done or failed to do, according to the national pollsters (Rasmussen, CNN, Gallup, USA Today, etc…) There is a strong anti-incumbent sentiment, and that is good for voter turnout but disastrous if you are an incumbent. Right now on the national scene incumbents and especially those in the ruling party, are suffering … click here to see a map of Congressional House projections by Real Clear Politics (www.realclearpolitics.com), a non-partisan website that aggregates poll data of national and regional polls.

Recent updates show eastern democratic Congressman Mike McIntyre in the race of his life, and south of the triangle Fayetteville-Lillington democratic congressman Bob Etheridge now polling 5 points behind challenger nurse, Renee Elmers. The battle for the US Senate is a little kinder for the majority party, but note all 6 Toss-up races are incumbent democratic seats – click here to view the map of the senate

For the first time since 1898 the NC Senate is expected to change hands. Political consultants on both sides of the aisle concur the likelihood of it remaining in the democrats hands is very slim. The projections for the state house are a little less certain with so many races in play. In many races turnout will be driven by popular local races like the county sheriff. However, all polls point to the same driving issue across the country, and that is ‘jobs and economy.’

The top of the ticket in North Carolina is the US Senate seat where Winston-Salem Republican incumbent senator Richard Burr is defending against primary embattled NC Secretary of State Elaine Marshall. The REALTOR® Party, has endorsed Senator Burr in this race, for his excellent record supporting important REALTOR® issues.
