“Green” homes to be featured on tour
“Green” homes
to be featured on tour
Spring has officially arrived and it brings with it the annual Green Home
Tour on May 3-4. This free, self-guided tour is organized by the Green Home
Builders of the Triangle, which is a joint project of the Home Builders Association
of Durham,
Orange and
Chatham
Counties and the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County.
This year the tour, sponsored by Stock Building Supply, features more than
40 homes throughout the Triangle area. Each home is enrolled in the green
building certification program administered by the Triangle HBAs, and each
entry is being built to conform to at least the bronze level of certification.

This
beautiful home by Commonwealth Construction & Design, one of
40 on the Green Home Tour May 3-4, shows that green homes can certainly
be very stylish. |
The emphasis of the Green Home Tour is on the technical details of construction,
and some of the homes on tour are expected to be only partially complete
so attendees can see materials and techniques that would otherwise be hidden
behind the walls.
Of course, many of the green homes on the tour look like traditional subdivision
houses, because builders can incorporate green technologies into homes of
any style. Tour homes will also represent a wide range of styles and price
points.
A kickoff event at the
North Carolina
Biotechnology
Center on Saturday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to noon will feature displays and
speakers who can provide valuable information on what it means to be green.
Event information is available online at www.hbadoc.com.
